DOOM WATCH starts at the Lookout at Stepper Point, above the Camel estuary. Run by volunteers, they are keen to welcome visitors. I first visited it in 2011; I was amazed at the map on the notice board, displaying so many boats sunk nearby. That was the first I'd heard about the Doom Bar - a sandbank at the mouth of the Camel which shifts about regularly.
The key mystery in Doom Watch is the human remains found in the pool at the the old Prince of Wales Quarry near Trewarmett. I visited the quarry soon after we acquired our cottage in 2007, and thought at the time that it would make a good place to hide a body.
